Vegan Chickpea Hot Dog

Have you already tried the chickpea omelet and chickpea burger recipes? Then you’ll love this chickpea hot dog dish. You should already know how to make your own homemade spelt hot dog buns to go with it, so put up the grill (or turn on your frying pan), and let’s get to cookin’!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup boiled chick peas (or 1 can of chickpeas)
  • 1/2 cup spelt
  • Cilantro (optional)
  • Onions (optional)
  • Peppers (optional)
  • Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2.5 tsp salt
  • Avocado oil to fry with
Directions:
 
This should make around 6 hot dogs. Blend up your chickpeas using a blender or food processor. In a bowl, add in your spelt flour, seasonings and optional ingredients. (You can add a little water to the food processor if the beans come out too dry, making it difficult to hold together. I sometimes leave a little water from the can.)
Now mix it all up, then add your olive oil. Using your hands, start to form into a ball and then take pieces of it and start to roll it into a hot dog shape. You can separate the ball into 6 pieces if that will help you figure out how much to use.
Turn on your frying pan to medium or medium low and pour in your avocado oil. Fry all sides until it’s nice and brown. Once done, enjoy with some DiJon mustard, homemade ketchup (to avoid GMO tomatoes) and some green banana fries on the side!
