Metaphysical Movies: Dr Strange Review & BreakDown

I haven’t done one of these in a little while and seeing how much traffic and feedback I received from the Metaphysical Movies: As Above So Below movie break down I’ve decided to get the ball rolling again with a Dr Strange breakdown/review. Ill simply point out the things I noticed and follow it with information and how it could of had a more esoteric meaning.

The opening scene begins in what looks like an old dusty temple in a foggy dimension, we come to see its the sacred library/sanctum. There is someone in a robe, 3 people actually. All of them seem to be holding their hands in a mudra. Which mudra ….( Im watching a bootlegg copy) so from what it looks like  he seems to be holding the Kali mudra (index finger upward) and that would make sense coming from this character.

“Kali’s earliest appearance is that of a destroyer principally of evil forces. She is the goddess of one of the four subcategories of the Kulamārga, a category of tantric Saivism.  Over time, she has been worshipped by devotional movements and tantric sects variously as the Divine Mother, Mother of the Universe” – Wiki

What is a mudra ? A mudra ( i/muˈdrɑː/; Sanskrit मुद्रा, “seal”, “mark”, or “gesture”; Tibetan: ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ is a symbolic or ritual gesture in Hinduism and Buddhism. While some mudras involve the entire body, most are performed with the hands and fingers.

Why 3 people …. the spiritual meaning of number Three deals with magic, intuition, fecundity, and advantage. The number Three invokes expression, versatility, and pure joy of creativity. Three is also a time identifier as it represents Past, Present and Future. – WYS

Indicator that this may be a storyline revolving around the concept of magic and time. I use mudras to direct energy in a more specific fashion while meditating.

Okay so within the first 30 seconds of the film we already have an idea of the type of energy this dark figure will be aligned with. Destruction of time with the intent of starting new. Look more into Kali to see the full scope of her power. To further induce the Kali presence they chop off the librarians head to get the message across. Kali can be seen cutting off the heads of men in multiple depictions.

This scene leads us into an introduction to “The ancient one” and manipulation of reality in the mirror dimension. She comes in defense of the London sanctum/library and chases the “Kali gang” into the streets of London after they steal a spell from a book. One consistency that I noticed of the Ancient one was the color she wore, all throughout the movie she could be seen in yellow during fight scenes. Yellow can be associated with the sacral chakra, wisdom from experience, creativity and intellect. I think she is suppose to be a symbol for Vishnu being she wears yellow and  Vishnu is known to be “the preserver, protector” whenever the world is threatened with evil, chaos, and destructive forces – Wiki.  Well go into more of that later.

Moving along, we are introduced to the super egotistical genius Dr Strange. They use his first scene to display his extraordinary gift of memory, recalling facts about a song while operating on a patient. This scene leads into Dr Strange discovering a more complex problem for a friend/co worker ultimately saving someone that was pronounced brain dead. He is made an offer to work in ER but declines because the work will not gain him enough recognition (ego).

Fast forward, Dr strange gets into a car accident receiving information on a potential patient. She had a chip in her head that controls a personality disorder and was struck by lightning.  Either way he is laying on the bed after the accident looking at his hands and the only thing he can think of is the fact that if he were operating on his hands he could of done a better job. I think there is a special looping irony here, you need your hands to fix your hands but your hands are broke. Reoccuring theme of his ego getting in the way of his gift even when the source of egotism has been destroyed.

A few scenes driving the point of Dr strange being an @$$hole to his co worker and therapy session that changes what he thinks is possible. Someone tells Strange that there was a person with Spinal damage and he was able to walk again. Another reoccuring theme in Dr Strange … seeing is believing. When you hear something that is unbelievable the only thing that will help is seeing it for your own eyes. He visits the guy at the park, the guy tells him he focused on his mind since his body was through, refers him to a school that may be able to help.  Park guy tells Strange the cost is high, Strange ask how much is it referring to money, Park guy says thats not what I mean. Strange also is symbolized as materialistic and logical minded so this subtle line shows he must pay in will power and dedication in order to reap the rewards and recover.

Strange goes on to search for the school, finds himself in a back alley and gets jumped by a gang. A mysterious man that overheard strange comes to his rescue. At the end of the exchange the man hands back strange his broken watch and tells him he can help find the school.  I think this was symbolism that strange has reached a point in his journey where his logic and thought process would no longer serve him (crushing of the watch). This also could be symbolism that his true power will be dealing with the destruction or manipulation of time.

Strange is led to the temple and is given advice to forget what you think you know before entering. It is here strange has his introduction to the metaphysical aspects of reality. Not taking advice, he begins to display his knowledge. It is apparent that he is in denial of the new methods/information being presented to him by the Ancient one. It is here that the seeing is believing theme occurs once again.  The ancient one feels the only way he would truly realize the truth is by experiencing it.

The ancient one Punches his astral body out of his physical body and this is where the Dj holds the record and makes that noise. What is the astral body what is astral projection, is this possible.. Im sure all of these questions have crossed your mind and I wont go into super detail here but a good book to check out would be Projection of the Astral body by Sylvan Muldoon.AstralBody This book is an indepth guide and also shares many experiences of Astral projection and the possibilities of when you are in that realm. If your serious about learning that book is a must have. To answer if it is possible to astral project yes, can someone punch you out of your physical and into your astral … mmmm not so sure haha (resume music). That could be movie magic but you never know what abilities one may possess in reality.

Dr Strange comes back and ask what did you put in this tea psilocybin (mushrooms), lsd (man made chemical similar to psilocybin). Im familiar with entheogens and they can be used as a stepping stone to reach certain trance states, meditations, visualizations and experiences so I guess the first logical thought would be “I’ve been laced!!” (Strange still holding a tight grip on the logical mind).   Strange ask why are you doing this to me?  She answers….

screen-shot-2016-11-14-at-1-12-31-pmTo show you just how much you dont know …. open your “eye”. “You think you know how this world works you think this physical material is all there is, what is real… what mysteries are beyond the reach of your senses. At the root of your existence mind and matter meet, thoughts equal reality”.

IG @artxman

I think an important thing to notice is she said open your eye, not eyes. She was not referring to the two physical eyes. The pineal gland located in the center of your brain LITERALLY functions with the same mechanics the eye operates with to receive vision. The movie doesn’t go in depth on how to see with your pineal and surely doesn’t list gurus that can punch the vision of the pineal gland into us but I will leave you with this tip/lesson. To see with your pineal gland practice conscious breathing and use your eyes as if they were open when the lids are closed. Seeing with your pineal feels like seeing from memories you have not created yet.  Moving along …..

They kick  Strange out the sanctum and now he is begging to come back to the school to learn more now that he experienced what is possible for himself. They allow him to come back in, give him a room and also a wifi password that happens to be Shambhala. It was used as a joke so the seriousness of it may have been overlooked. What is Shambhala and what is the symbolism in relation to what is going on in the movie?

Thangka serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities

Shambhala gradually came to be seen as a Buddhist pure land, a fabulous kingdom whose reality is visionary or spiritual as much as physical or geographic. The ledgends, teachings and healing practices associated with Shambhala are older than any of these organized religions. Shambhala may very well have been an indigenous belief system, Some mention the village Shambhala as the birthplace of Kalki, the final incarnation of Vishnu who will usher in a new Golden Age.  – Wiki

They allowed Strange back into the kingdom of magic and healing. Shambhala being the password for wifi, think about what wifi allows you to do, connect to the internet. Being Shambhla is the password for connecting you can associate the sanctum with being the multi-verse “gateway”of knowledge and wisdom.

The Ancient One gives a quick breakdown of how the universe works and tells Strange he must begin to study just as if he were learning a Medical practice. Dr.  Strange begins his study and is drawn to the book of time or Cagliostro. The Book of Cagliostro is amongst the private collection of the ancient one.  There was an important quote in this scene. “No knowledge is forbidden only certain practices” This could be one of my favorite quotes in the movie. It shows the fact that just because you have the knowledge doesn’t mean you qualify to practice what you think you know.

Who was Cagliostro?  Count Alessandro di (alesˈsandro di), original name Giuseppe Balsamo. 1743–95, Italian adventurer and magician, who was imprisoned for life by the Inquisition for his association with freemasonry….. Interesting person to name the book of time after.

The next scene shows the Kali gang using the stolen spell to mentally manipulate reality using power from the dark side. They use what looks like the Ganesha mudra. Who is Ganesha and why would they use this mudra for this particular spell. I think it ties into mastery of the mind.

Ironically the symbol they use looks like two elephant eyes and a trunk going down the middle, even the two tusk extend from the side. The master of ceremony also has a mark at his third eye commonly found on Ganesha depictions.

“Ganesha’s trunk symbolizes the ability of the transcendentalist to grab both the coarse principles, thin ones. The mouse typically found at the feet of Ganesha is the desire. A small mouse can destroy an entire crop, a single selfish desire can destroy all our virtues. But a spiritually realized person has complete mastery over their own minds and their own desires. This is why it is said that Ganesha rides a mouse. Other times the mouse is sitting at the feet of Ganesha looking intently at his face, without touching the cakes before him. This symbolizes how a person is made master of his own mind, and how the mind moves only according to his command. Sometimes Ganesha is depicted with a third eye or the sectarian mark (IAST: tilaka), which consists of three horizontal lines as well as a crescent moon on the forehead.” The Brahmanda Purana says that Ganesha has the name Lambodara because all the universes  cosmic eggs of the past, present, and future are present in him.”  Another time reference. Strange is having trouble visualizing a destination to open a portal because he believes his hands are giving him trouble. Another example of seeing is believing, The ancient one brings out a fellow student that is missing a hand to show Strange the ability has little to do with your hands and more to do with your state of mind. Gain control by letting go of control.

She puts him to the test, traps him on Mount Everest and he makes it back through a portal he wills himself through using the sling ring.

With a new found confidence Strange begins to study astral project without any guidance.  The ancient one shows him of the mirror dimension and exposes him to the idea of threats being real in the “multi verse”. This causes strange to become even more curious and ask questions about How old the ancient one is, who she really is and what is the forbidden ritual. They make brief mention of relics and objects holding on to magic that people can not sustain. There have been historical tales of powerful ancient relics that could of existed. One example would be the Ark of the covenant.

The next scene Strange finds himself looking through the book of time and discovering a spell that utilizes The Agamotto infinity stone.  He puts the stone around his neck and begins to open the portal.  What mudra is he using …mmm looks loosely like the Maha Sacral Mudra (variation). The only thing that sparked my curiosity was the word Agamotto, like all words this one was man made but if you break down Aga and Motto you get  Aga – Master and Motto – Word interesting….  Also the “energy grid” he forms with his hand resembles the same geometrical pattern and color assigned to the heart chakra.

What does this have to do with altering past, present and future. They say the heart is the seat of the soul, wisdom and intelligence. Focusing on this energy point and traveling through can lead to perception and experience that is timeless.

Strange gets caught manipulating time and is warned about the dangers of not only time manipulation but other entities that want the power they protect.

I noticed the design of the light resembled a geometric pattern of Metatrons Cube. Quick shot but the light pattern on the previous shot was not setup the same Metatrons cube or Merakbah is known to be a vehicle that can transport consciousness .

The next series of scenes involves Dr Strange fighting to protect the New York temple from the Kali Gang. Dr Strange win the first battle with the help of his new found relic The gangster “Cape of Levitation”. He captures the leader of the Kali Gang in a contraption. He begins to tell Strange about how he wants to make the world live forever, in a world beyond time and how death is an insult.  Strange gets stabbed and then transports himself to the hospital he used to work at while the cape beats up the guy that stabbed him back in the NY temple. While being operated on he projects his astral body into the physical reality …. another part where the Dj stops the music.  Is that possible … who knows lol either way a fight in the astral realm breaks out. Astral fights actually have been written about (Projection of Astral book above) so that part is more believable to me though Ive yet to go a few rounds in astral world with someone. Sometimes the new age doctrine can make things seem bubbly and namaste all the time when it really isn’t. You will run into negative and positive in all aspects.

Dr Strange gets a chance to confront his ego and apologize to his co worker realizing how much of an a$$hole he used to be.  This is a sign that strange is becoming a new person and seeing the flaws in his old ways.

All throughout the movie Strange’s stubbornness has been working against him but now it begins to work in his favor by questioning everything that is going on he begins to gain clairvoyance on The ancient one realizing she isn’t exactly who she says she is and could be harnessing energy from the dark dimension to stay alive.

Fast forward a few minutes and back to fighting…. Strange made a mistake by turning everything into the mirror dimension making the Kali gang even stronger. After running for a little while and getting his sling ring snatched, The Ancient one arrives in all yellow to protect them (Vishnu) . The interesting part of this is that she manifested a stable platform in the midst of a complex mirrored world. The shape that happened to be on it was the seed of life.

What exactly is the seed of life you may ask?  The Seed of Life represents the seven stages, steps, or days of creation. The creation of a vibrating pattern of space (electromagnetic radiation) is the actual process of creation itself which otherwise is symbolized by various concepts such as “days of creation” to make something otherwise almost impossible to explain, much easier to handle. The Seed of Life is a primary building block of the Flower of Life, from which comes forth the Fruit of Life. Another blueprint for everything, the Fruit of Life creates all elements, molecules, organisms, and even everything else in the universe. In other words, everything that abides in reality comes from the form of the Seed of Life. – SOW

What is the symbolism behind her creating the seed of life to stand on? Im not quite fully sure yet but I think it is to show how in the realm of chaos life was created as a stable platform to experience life and death.

The movie goes on to Dr Strange turning back time creating one of the best fighting scenes ive seen effects wise im still wondering how many hours it took to create that effect. Eventually Strange goes into the dark timeless deminsion to make a bargain with Dormammu by trapping him within an endless loop of time ultimately saving the Hong Kong sanctum and unlocking the most expensive mannequin challenge.

That is what I saw when I watched Dr Strange ….. Hope I showed you something you missed.  My review of the movie it gets 3 out of 5 stars. The effects 5/5.  There is a thin line between movie and reality its up to you to learn from the difference.  Peace
