Negatives and Positives of Solar Energy

Solar energy has the potential to dramatically change the way the world gets its power. Enough solar energy falls on a 100-square-mile area of the southwestern United States to power the entire nation. It is still important, however, to understand the environmental impacts associated with producing power from renewable sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, and hydropower.

While solar is among the world’s cleanest forms of energy, plans to develop utility scale solar farms have raised concerns about potential environmental impacts.

One person’s beauty is another person’s eyesore. For some, solar panels evoke positive feelings, even when set in a natural landscape

Creating energy is a water intensive process. In the U.S., electricity production accounts for more than 40 percent of all daily freshwater withdrawals

10 big brain benefits of playing chess

Not for nothing is chess known as “the game of kings.” No doubt the rulers of empires and kingdoms saw in the game fitting practice for the strategizing and forecasting they themselves were required to do when dealing with other monarchs and challengers. chesshelpsbrain As we learn more about the brain, some are beginning to push for chess to be reintroduced as a tool in the public’s education. With benefits like these, they have a strong case.

1. It can raise your IQ
Chess has always had an image problem, being seen as a game for brainiacs and people with already high IQs. So there has been a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation: do smart people gravitate towards chess, or does playing chess make them smart? At least one study has shown that moving those knights and rooks around can in fact raise a person’s intelligence quotient. A study of 4,000 Venezuelan students produced significant rises in the IQ scores of both boys and girls after 4 months of chess instruction.

2. It helps prevent Alzheimer’s
Because the brain works like a muscle, it needs exercise like any bicep or quad to be healthy and ward off injury. A recent study featured in The New England Journal of Medicine found that people over 75 who engage in brain-stretching activities like chess are less likely to develop dementia than their non-board-game-playing peers. Just like an un-exercised muscle loses strength, Dr. Robert Freidland, the study’s author, found that unused brain tissue leads to a loss of brain power. So that’s all the more reason to play chess before you turn 75.

3. It exercises both sides of the brain
In a German study, researchers showed chess experts and novices simple geometric shapes and chess positions and measured the subjects’ reactions in identifying them. They expected to find the experts’ left brains being much more active, but they did not expect the right hemisphere of the brain to do so as well. Their reaction times to the simple shapes were the same, but the experts were using both sides of their brains to more quickly respond to the chess position questions.

Lower Your Blood Pressure

Vegetarian diet may lower your blood pressure

Nearly a third of American adults have high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. Often called the “silent killer” because it provides few warning signs, hypertension increases a patient’s risk for heart attack and stroke.

A healthy blood pressure is 120/80 mm HG. Previous studies have shown that each increase of 20/10 mm Hg in that number doubles the patient’s risk of cardiovascular disease. But lowering that top number just 5 mm HG can reduce your chances of dying from cardiovascular disease by about 7%. And eating more fruits and vegetables may be a good way to do that, according to the new study, published Monday in the scientific journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

Many factors could be affecting the vegetarians’ blood pressure. Vegetarian diets are often lower in sodium and saturated fats, while being higher in fiber and potassium.

Vegetarians also tend to have lower body mass indexes because fruits and vegetables are less energy dense – meaning you can eat more of them for fewer calories.

FALAFEL FLOW

Another one of my personal go to lunch picks. Falafels are fast and fresh. Gluten-Free-Vegan-Falafel

INGREDIENTS
  • 4 cups stemmed and torn collard greens (one bunch), or swiss chard
  • 1 15.5 ounce can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 3 medium to large cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1.5 Tbsp tahini
  • 1.5 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • sea salt and black pepper
  • 3-4 Tbsp oat flour (ground from gluten free oats)
  • ~ 4 Tbsp grapeseed or olive oil for cooking
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Add collard greens, chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, cumin, and a healthy pinch each salt and pepper to a food processor and mix to combine (see photo).
  2. Once well incorporated, transfer to a mixing bowl and stir in oat flour 1 Tbsp at a time until the mixture is thick enough to handle – about 3-4 Tbsp.
  3. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. I added more salt, pepper and lemon juice, and a touch more tahini.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium to medium-high heat and add 2 Tbsp oil at a time. Swirl to coat pan.
  5. Add 4 falafel (or however many will fit very comfortably) to the pan at a time.
  6. Check at the 1-2 minute mark to ensure they’re not browning too quickly. If they are, slightly reduce heat. Flip once deep golden brown – about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Cook until the underside is golden brown as well.
  8. Serve immediately with hummus and paprika, or inside a pita with garlic sauce or hummus.
  9. Will store in the fridge, layered with parchment paper in an airtight container, for several days. Freeze to keep longer

Yellow Garnet

Yellow Grossular Garnet activates the Solar Plexus Chakra, the energy distribution center and the chakra of relationships. This chakra is located between the ribcage and navel, and controls the immune and digestive systems. yg3When in balance physically, you have strength to fight infections, are free of allergic reactions, and are able to use the nutrients you ingest. When the solar plexus is out of balance spiritually, you feel fear – of the disappointment or displeasure of others or to subordinating your life and pleasures to the will of others. Spiritually, when the solar plexus is in balance you are free to interpret the world through your own thoughts and emotions and not live in fear of violating the dictums of others.

The Elixir of Immortality

Mushrooms were consumed by ancient Egyptian, Aztecs and Maya for centuries in religious ceremonies, used for healing, divination, and communion with the spirit world. Many species of mushroom can be found growing naturally in the wild today. Personally I have found mushrooms to be eye opening over the past 5 years. The effects psilocybin can be subtle but effective in opening the range of your perspective mentally as well as bringing attention to false desires .  There will be more information on how to use magic mushrooms or other shamanistic tools to bridge the gap!

Be on the look out for the new Shaman section soon. I will be giving updates on personal experience and visual journeys.

DMT The Spirit Molecule?

Dimethyltryptamine, better known as DMT, is an illegal psychedelic drug you’ve probably never heard of that is produced by your own body.

DMT is created by mixing an enzyme with an amino acid, the latter of which is found in many forms of organic life.

It can be smoked, drunk or even injected and produces a powerful hallucinatory experience.

Users say you lose all sense of time, place and reality.

South American tribes drink a brew containing plants with DMT as part of shamanic rituals. The ritual is used as a means of spiritual healing allegedly allowing users to communicate with inter-dimensional beings.

My Experiences: N/A Yet but a report may be coming soon!

Youtube has plenty of people giving their reports on the effects of DMT. Check it out if your interested.

Melanin

“The Science of the Melanin” and “Dark Matter, Dark Secrets” melanin lies beyond skin pigmentation and the material-spiritual relationship of melanin!

The pineal gland was the last endocrine gland to have its function discovered. Its location deep in the brain seemed to indicate its importance. This combination led to its being a “mystery” gland with myth, superstition and even metaphysical theories surrounding its perceived function.

The pineal gland is occasionally associated with the third chakra (also called Ajna or the third eye chakra in yoga). It is believed by some to be a dormant organ that can be awakened to enable “telepathic” communication.

In the physical body the eye views objects upside down. It sends the image of what it observes to the brain which interprets the image and makes it appear right side-up to us.

But the human body has another physical eye whose function has long been recognized by humanity. It is called the ‘Third Eye’ which in reality is the Pineal Gland. It is long thought to have mystical powers. Many consider it the Spiritual Third Eye, our Inner Vision.

It is located in the geometric center of the brain. This correlates to the location of the Great Pyramid in the center of the physical planet.

The Pineal Gland is about the size of a pea, and is in the center of the brain in a tiny cave behind and above the pituitary gland which lies a little behind the root of the nose. It is located directly behind the eyes, attached to the third ventricle.

The true function of this mysterious gland has long been contemplated by philosophers and Spiritual Adepts. Ancient Greeks believed the pineal gland to be our connection to the Realms of Thought.
