Enter the Void is an English-language French drama film written and directed by Gaspar Noé and starring Nathaniel Brown, Paz de la Huerta and Cyril Roy. Set in the neon-lit nightclub environments of Tokyo, the story follows Oscar, a young American drug dealer who gets shot by the police, but continues to watch succeeding events during an out-of-body experience. The film is shot from a first-person viewpoint, which often floats above the city streets, and occasionally features Oscar staring over his own shoulder as he recalls moments from his past. Noé labels the film as a “psychedelic melodrama”.
This movie definitely helped take my imagination to the next level as far as what is possible through visual story telling!

I learned much about how much is really required to feed the animals that feed us in a sense… 2 years ago I stopped eating poultry and after watching this I may lean on the Salmon a bit as well. Though the bigger picture needs to be seen and decisions need to be made or the results will come as they should!
I was scanning the bootleg movie list on one of my favorite websites vodly.to and I saw a movie poster that caught my eye. Bright red and it looked like a obelisk at a glance so I clicked on it. To my surprise the name of the movie was As above so below….hmmm Okay so I click on it, I didn’t read movie description which was typical of me. As I continue watching I see that the title of the movie may actually fit what the movie is about …rare these days. So I continue watching. Turned out to be actually good with a nice amount of occult/history in it.
I was going to make a video breaking down the meaning behind the scenes in it but for now ill just post the notes here and make a video later. So if you have not seen it watch it here. Before moving forward with a light breakdown of the metaphysical aspects of this movie.
Now that you have seen it this is my take on the symbolism of the movie.
The movie has 2 main characters with a few others surrounding.
Archeologist/Scarlett – Isis of Egyptian mythology
Translator – Osiris of Egyptian mythology
The PapCrew – Set of Egyptian mythology
Camera Man/Benji -The Fallen Man / Identity Erased
Mysterious Friend – Lost soul trapped between worlds
I will break down and go into more detail to how each one of them is used as a symbol along with the apparent clues in the movie.
Lets start of with the way it begins Scarlett the main character is on a quest continuing her fathers work in Iran to find the philosophers stone. She is not clear on how her father dies in the beginning when she is question on his sanity.
-The Philosophers stone from my knowledge is a mythical stone that can heal all sickness grant immortality and transform the properties of all elements.
She meets a friend of her fathers and climbs through a hole in the wall covered by a prayer rug that leads into a sight that is getting read to be destroyed by the powers that be. She makes it through and finds what she has been looking for. She sees a wall reads it quickly then discovers she must break through to find a statue of what looks like a bull/cow . The cow has been used as a symbol for Hathor. In this movie the cow is a key of translation similar to the rosetta stone.
Hathor becomes the Great Cow Goddess who suckles the newborn pharaoh on Earth as the incarnation of Re-Hru, signified by the Horus name of the pharaoh. Hathor gives birth to the reincarnated Re at the gates ofthe East and takes him into Khentimentiu in the West at evening, while Re-Hru moves in an orderly fashion through his house (Hwt-Hr) in the sky—the infinite body of Nut. Nut was also sometimes depicted in the form of a cow whose great body formed the sky and heavens, a sycamore tree, or as a giant sow. Nut has four or five children: Osiris, Set,Isis, Nephthys, and Horus. Her name is translated to mean ‘sky.
Okay so she quickly grabs her camera and documents all the inscriptions on the cow via video and barely makes it out alive by following the light at the end of the tunnel. This was an appropriate start symbolizing the beginning of it all. You must show the origin of the principals the characters represent in the movie.
Next she finds a friend of hers that is a translator of the Armaic language. At this point she has hired a african/black guy named Benji short for Benjamin to document this journey on video. The friend/translator she meets up with does not want to help but after she reveals her discovery he agrees to translate only. They go to a museum and are granted 10 minutes to translate the tombstone of an alchemist that was known as the creator of the philosophers stone. He translates the tombstone and she puts two and two together and discovers she must find the message on the back of the tombstone moving her to remove the artifact from the wall adding lime setting it on fire to reveal the true location of the philosophers stone. The symbolism behind the philosophers stone can be taken two ways … as a physical stone or something that you posses already within you. The next question I would ask is … what is known to be located on your back .. The spinal column also said to be where your 7 Chakras reside. Throughout the movie we will see this number 7 appear again.
They decipher the message on the back of the tombstone and figure out that it is located under paris where 6 million corpse or atleast the bones of the corpse reside. They visit the mass grave while on a tour with a tour guide and a mysterious man over hears her say they need to get back there and he tells them to look for a guy named Pap.. Then he vanishes once they look away.
They figure out they can find Pap in a night club at a specific time and go to the club and make an agreement of Pap keeping 50% of the treasure that they find. During this scene the black guy notices/gives attention to a white lady coming out of the night club and she pays him particular attention as well. During the conversation with Pap the black guy notices the lady is walking and watching him outside of the window that is above paps head… This lady will be seen again later on in the movie. They agree and link up the next day to enter the mass grave on quest for the treasure and the philosophers stone. Pap gets his crew together and they make it to the entrance a small hole in what seems to be a tunnel. The translator makes it very clear that he does not want to go underground and only agreed to translate. Scarlett continuously tells Pap that he will come … as the crew is entering police tackle pap and The translator is forced to go underground. I think it is essential to breakdown what the translator symbolizes at this point which is Osiris.
The Translator symbolizes Osiris. Osiris is known as the guide to the underworld. Osiris is the husband of Isis. In that after thousands of years all female goddesses became merged as an aspect of Isis, she too is central to Egyptian symbolism. Most scholars know of the tragic story of the death of Osiris. He was murdered by his evil brother Set. Set is the destructive aspect that the alchemical principal must undergo, and thus be reborn into a new and purified creation.
This will be elaborated on and become more apparent throughout the movie but the point is without the guide to the underworld she would not have been able to fully complete her journey. Lets continue….
So they make it in and begin to navigate through the tunnel. They past a group of people in a cut doing a ritual what seemed to be led by the lady the black dude kept spotting the night of the club scene. They come to a point where Scarlett and Pap have a disagreement about which way to take. Pap tells her a story of his friend that knew all the tunnels very well and NEVER took that way before and the one day that he choose to go through that path they never heard from him again. … She choose to listen to Pap and they take the narrow path that requires them to crawl over a long tunnel of bones.
Everyone makes it across without too much trouble except the African/black camera man. I looked at this as a symbol.. he begins to panic because he is stuck and starts to hyperventilate causing his breathing to become difficult. This can be looked at as the African man having difficulty moving forward because of the past being symbolized as the bones of ancestors hearing “songs” as was screamed in the movie. Being haunted by the distractions in the wat of identifying with your origins.
They make it to the other side of the bones only to find themselves in the same room that they were just in with the forbidden tunnel that noone goes through except Paps friend. With no other choice they go through … At this point you can say they are in the astral realm … also known as the middle ground between Physical reality and Afterlife where things dont quite make sense but they look similar to the physical world around you. They see a tag that Pap has left behind in the tunnel he claimed he has never been before ..You truely get the notion your in their collective subconscious mind when you see the random piano and the dude playing and the note being off just as he remembered it in dream fashion. The dude They continue the journey through the forbidden tunnel…. . As above so below.. If you remember he did leave a tag that he taps with his hand previously on the wall when they first intially entered the tunnels. As they continue going through the tunnel they hear a phone ringing. If you remember Pap said earlier no phones would work .. so he tries to explain that telephone companies used this underground for wiring etc etc … Scarlett is curious and follows the ringing picks up the phone and a voice says her name and a few other mumbled words. This phone symbolized communication between worlds After Life and Physical Reality and the crew being in between each (astral) by choosing this path. Shortly after they run into Paps friend which they thought was dead. The only thing he really says is … You didn’t even look for me but continued to guide them through the tunnels in silence. They make it to a dead end by accident and find a room with a structure and they unlock the hidden entrance by pulling one of the 7 piled up stones. Each stone represented a planet and in Osiris fashion The translator helped guide Scarlett to making the right choice by providing information of the history of the Egyptian Padlock and how to unlock it. They make it through and see a member of the Knights Templar laying on a risen surface with little decay.
The Knights Templar Order is linked through ancestral descent from the original Knights Templar in England which was derived from the “Knights Templar of Jerusalem” and also linked to the “Knights of the Holy Sepulchre”. Today The Order is not associated with any other Order, fraction or other Knights Templar organizations or associations. The Order’s knowledge is derived from the Temples of Egypt; whilst the names and even languages have changed throughout history the common beliefs are fundamentally the same. Derived from Akhennaten´s monotheistic religion (belief in ‘One God’) who created the Mer-Ka-Ba symbol where the original Knights Templar symbol is taken. Akhennaten was the first to belief that all men are equal in the love of ONE GOD. The original believe in the true name of God “RA” (meaning God of Light and Creation) and in the pure Energy Spirit of Jesus. They believe in the “Love of the Creator” (the most powerful energy in the universe –KnightsTemplar.Uk
They pass the knight and In usual tempo Scarlett goes first and swims under to find the room which held the philosophers stone and a pile of gold behind a gate. Everyone follows and they swim under to see …
You can tell by the reaction of each person where everyones mind set is. Scarlett and the Translator was only interested in the philosophers stone and the telling of the mythology of Shu Nut and Geb.
The mysterious friend that was found in the tunnel he was in the corner staring directly at the camera man not interested in the gold nor the stone. The “Set” crew they were interested in nothing but the gold representing lower nature as it should. The Benji is again in ghost mode just observing just as the camera man should and we have been in reality when it comes to the history. Now this is the great part Scarlett goes to tell the translator where it is by explaining the tale of Shu Ra Nut and Geb but the eerie part about the scene was the replacement of actual Egyptians on the wall with what looks like a blue haired white dudes or maybe its just a bad copy it is bootleg after all Ill let you decide from the the pictures below or when hits dvd(online).
update 1.1.15 Someone left a comment saying they watched a dvd version and it appears not to be blue haired pale people so that compelled me to check out a copy and provide a updated screenshot .
She finished explaining points out the stone and wedges it out . After she pulled the stone out there was a quote that went
“What was the place to hide the most valuable stone ever known to make the riches you could never miss”
Directly after that line The “Set Crew” achieve success in getting the material wealth which was the gold and then the roof collapsed in.
What was the place? The place was right inside of you the last place you would look. The stone is within As above So Below. With it you can create endless amounts of gold and riches in your subconscious. Others may take this as a physical stone. Others may follow what Set represents lower self with a more physical materialistic nature. That will be a distraction. In mythology Set killed his brother Osiris and one of the Set crew members (The last Set crew member to live said he has a child but he has never seen her before representing the sexual aspect of the lower nature) The Translator dies and is brought back to life by Scarlett or Isis that represented the rebirth of Osiris.
After Scarlett demonstrates her healing power (Isis) using the philosophers stone by They continue through the tunnel Scarlett locates on the floor after noticing something on the ceiling that that says the Door to the mystical .. then they come upon Tetrahedron.
Could it be coincidence? A quick google search of the etymology of the word Benji will lead you to Benjamin. This is where it gets interesting. According to the Torah “Benjamin’s name arose when Jacob deliberately corrupted the name Benoni, the original name of Benjamin, since Benoni was an allusion to Rachel’s dying just after she had given birth as it means son of my pain. This is the symbol for Benjamin. Now to pull all that together I have to asked how does Benji or Benjamin die in this movie…? Below you see a screen capture of what scared Benji to his fall. This looks like a mother giving birth…. Ironic?
After she spots the tetrahedron symbol then she explains the symbol to meaning As Above So below. Everything within is without so on and so forth… You can take that as surface definition to the tetrahedron or you can look up the symbol of Mer Ka Ba. The word Merkaba can be broken down thus: MER: rotating fields of light, KA: spirit, and BA: soul (this is taken from an 18th dynasty Egyptian translation, and in Hebrew it means ‘chariot’). Therefore, Mer-Ka-Ba means the spirit or energy body surrounded by counter-rotating fields of light, or spirals of energy (as with a strand of DNA), which transport spirit or consciousness from one dimension to another.
This symbol gives clue to Scareltt that there is a door beneath because there was one above in accordance to the as above so below rules. They reach a wall that says abandon all hope he who enters here, signifying the gates of hell … As Scarlett begins to crawl in a hole she looks back to say a line that seems corny but like most things in this movie have an underlying definition
“They shall be made to crawl on their bellies into the kingdom of darkness”
What crawls or its belly? A snake. Symbolization for the Kundalini energy or Serpent power rising up into the pineal or third eye chakra also known as the kingdom of darkness until the energy is risen.
They make it through the hole and have to swim under a water passage way. They swim through and if you haven’t noticed already each time they transition from a different realm they must go through water. Water can be looked at as the doorway to going in and out of these “realms/dimensions/worlds” Who is made up of over 70% water? Ill let you figure that one out … They make it to the other side and what looks like a Corpse is laying on the table in front of them in a dim room… They noticed the mysterious friend was standing in the corner and went a bit crazy once they put the light on him .. one of the members from “The Set Crew” gets closer and he kills her brutally.
The mysterious friend symbolized the lost spirit. To me he was dead but stuck in between realms. He wandered the tunnels with no light, and pretty much had to be led through the underworld into the “afterlife” or beyond the gates of hell. He was thought to be dead before encountering Scarlett and “The Set Crew and he is the only person that actually killed someone the girl named Souxie If you do a quick search of the root word Sioux you will see it literally means “little snake” could this be symbolism for The Set crew being killed because they are dwelling on materialistic desires/lower chakras/ short snake not fully risen?.. He kills only after passing the gates of hell being the reason he was standing in shock or realization of himself being dead. At the point of killing he symbolizes Ammitt the eater of souls.
Ammit is seen as a swallowing entity, its order is neutral and strictly (similar to his attitude in the movie) serves at the whim of the other deities to take souls that have sinned (Set Crew ) against the gods (Isis & Osiris) and consign them into oblivion. In one rendering of Ammit a pole is depicted with seven balls on it. Ammit, the swallower, bites the pole just between the third and the fourth ball. It has been suggested, most notably by mythologist Joseph Campbell, that the seven balls in that painting represent a prototype of the chakra system. In that case the symbolic meaning would seem to be that if one’s aims in life have not surpassed the ones associated with the three lowest chakras and into the realm of those associated with the four highest chakras, one will be devoured by the swallower after death.
Moving right along … The mysterious guy/Ammit vanishes after killing the girl. Scarlett sprinkles some of the Philosopher stone on the girl’s forehead/Third eye in attempt to bring her back to life but it would not work. This could be symbolization to after your soul is eaten by Ammit there is no coming back. Soon after Benji falls to his death and one of the members of “The Set Crew” encounters a subconscious regret of being responsible for his brothers death… They convince him it is not real. Move forward and soon after a spirit/entity comes alive and bites the translator/Osiris in symbolism to cannabalism. Osiris was known as the god that stopped cannabalism and taught farming to the people to bring them out of savagery. The translator is about to die and Scarlett tries to use the stone on him but it does not work. He finds the energy to mumble vitrol which means cruel and bitter criticism the etymology of the word leads to a definition “of being glass, glassy” What he was saying was the stone was not real. Scarlett realizes she must return the stone she runs backwards and the water she must swim through is now replaced with blood symbolizing rebirth. The makes it back to the wall the philosophers stone was originally placed. She returns the stone then says something to the nature of rectification. The wipes the mirror with the hand of her blood to see her reflection. The mirror also symbolizes Hathor. She has a realization then begins to run back to the translator .. on the way she sees hands coming out of the blood and says to herself “So below as I believe so it is” the hands begin to return back in the water in realization that everything that is happening is being caused by their collective subconscious mind. She runs back to bring the translator back to life with her will/thought/mind power and a kiss (love connection between Isis and Osiris) She reveals to them they must let go of all regrets from the past that may be haunting them in order to move forward or they will be killed like the others. She forgave herself for not answering the phone. Zed the last member of “The Set Crew” was regretful for having a child but not being there to see her. George the translator felt responsible for his brothers death and had to release his regret from that. This can be looked at as symbolism to mythology as well. Osiris was killed by his brother Set .. you can look at his subconscious being responsible for his death previous to Scarlett bringing him back to life showing the symbolism to Isis energy of her power extending beyond the grave.
They come to the final jump and confess all of thee above she says they have to rectify themselves by doing this. She burns a paper which is a symbol of Release/Invocation magick or better known as Ritual. Burning rituals are used to release negative energy and old regrets that you may have been holding on to. Usually you would write the sins/regrets on the paper before you burn but they admitted it verbally, the paper was burned she tossed it down the hole and they all jumped together and survived reaching the bottom completing the ritual. They hit the bottom and Zed thinks he dead momentarily and they discover the last manhole and climb up to defy gravity being the man hole is beneath them but they are climbing down to go up to a street. Scarlett and the George the Translator hug and Zed walks off into the distance.. Ill let you decipher that. The story ends with Scarlett saying all she wants is the truth. From this breakdown There was some actually some truth in this movie until they remixed the Egyptian history records by putting blue haired white skinned people on the walls. Thats what I see wrong with this movie seems as if people want to claim to be apart of history that is not theirs to begin with. Hollywood will will weave false truths in the history via movies as such. Those who do not know may believe what they are seeing being it does have some reality to it. It reminds me of the scene when Benji was coming down the rope and burned his hands, I took that as symbolism to the african losing his identity lost of fingerprints/ hands being wrapped as the rest of the crew moves forward to claim what he has not. Thats my take on it. Peace
