You run to them
But what if the reason why
No one is here for you
Is because you haven’t been
Here for yourself?
“You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame; how could you rise anew if you have not first become ashes?”
Whoa, what a quote! To me this quote defines a Phoenix. The Phoenix is a mythical bird which gains new life by rising up from the ashes of its former life. So doesn’t this sound like it describes all our lives? We’re constantly on a cycle of rebirth. Every time you learn a lesson, someone breaks your heart, someone hurts your feelings, someone supports you; you grow in some fashion.
I’ve always been obsessed with “the Phoenix.” I’ve even called myself HaitianPhoenix on Twitter and Instagram. To be honest, I can’t even really tell you when and how this fascination began. The more it appeared, the more I was drawn to it and it became a central figure in my life, for what it represented.
Sometimes they burn you and sometimes you burn yourself, both are necessary. It sounds harsh, but it’s the truth. How many times, have our instincts told us one thing and we did another? Or how many times did you have touch the stove to know it was hot? When you literally get burnt, you experience pain, your skin gets red, it swells up, may make a blister, a scab, then the burnt skin comes off, so the new one can replace it. Isn’t that life? The burns are a metaphor for the experiences we go through. Fortunately there’s always an abundance of situations, both good and bad. But the blessing of it all, is that they teach you, and from it you will always have new beginnings
