Be Metaphysical: The Will To Run 10 – 13

DAY 10 8.1 ( 5.31 Miles)

Today, I wasn’t too sure if I wanted to run. imageWith that being said I decided to run a little later in the day.  Im used to running in the hottest part of the day so it was different running without the intensity of the heat. I actually feel like the heat helps me run better. Being cool felt like it was holding me back or I wasn’t loosening up as fast as I normally would.  Running was the second priority, I really was going out to take photos along the path for a potential photoshoot so that helped me get going and out of the house.  Looking for locations also helped me get an extra 2 miles in on the run unexpectedly.

Day 11 8.2  (21.0 Miles)

Soo… I think i’m getting the downtown run itch again.  I really wanted to check out the Blue Heron Reserve (10 Miles one way) that I passed by.  Calculating how many waters and bananas I will be picking up along the way to make sure I have everything covered this time.  Yeah I think running to the reserve and back will be the plan. I can get a quick breather at the reserve check out some of the Blue Heron and this way I can just run back home and to the waterfall for a well deserved cool down! Thinking of what music I should load up on before I go, Major Key has been pretty cool I only bump the first 5 tracks. Thinking of listening to Sun Ra to get the wheels turning and save some of the energetic songs for the run back.

Going over my Pre run checklist ..

Hour of yoga √

Hand wash and Dry shorts √

Load up music √

Review my will incase I collapse lol √

Time to Run it!

This run was -_-  fun but intense. I felt something pop during yoga, that left me with a funny feeling in my left back but I knew once I started running all the minor pain would subside.  It was nice andimage
sunny outside just how I like it. The stops/gas stations I was going to get water from were pre selected based on the first downtown run I made. I only planned on grabbing drinks 3 times.  I pushed much further than I did the first time without pausing I would say about 6 miles in before taking a short walk breather and allowing my body to process the water I was sipping.  at about  8 miles I had to grab something with sugar. I can tell when I need a boost so I picked up some coconut water, vitamin water, water water, and mango juice!  This kept me alive and I continued to pace myself as I sipped.  Around the 9 mile mark it began to ran and I was very thankful. I needed to cool down a little and I never knew how great running in the rain felt until that point. It seemed to revitalize me!  The intention was to run to the Blue Heron Reserve but some how I either missed it or it was further than I thought either way the goal was to run 10 miles so when I heard 10 miles I began to run back. I wanted to stop at the reserve to rest a little but things change so I just kept pushing back. At this point i’m on auto pilot and wondering how in the world will I make it back. I started to think to myself It would of been easier for me to continue running downtown and take the train back… doubt was kicking in but I quickly kicked it out.  Fast forward As I approached 19 miles  the only thing keeping me going was hearing my Iphone finally say 20 miles…. I chanted to myself ( and out loud) cmon I know Im close.. say 20!!!  and about 40 seconds later I heard it … 20 miles completed!  Threw my hands up in the air and kept running! Soon after I just walked because my legs were giving in. I thought about going to the waterfall but the rainfall was enough for me to feel satisfied! After I made it in I had to run drive out for coconuts mangoes pasta and pizza! It didn’t feel like 5 hours had passed, I was surprised to see what time it was.image

Day 12 8.3 ( 0 miles)

Today Im going for 50 … just kidding more like 5. My sleep has been great lately. It is almost like I go into small comas when I doze off. As I was dozing off I had a dream that I was running still and my leg kicked up and hit the window. This made me laugh and turn in the opposite direction so that wouldn’t happen again. Id hate to get hurt while dream running ha. Hand washing my shorts everyday is becoming tedious but I feel like it is a necessary ritual.  The time it takes to dry gives me time to get in a warm up yoga session.

Fast forward …. I decided to rest but had a universal coincidence  led to nice workout session!

Be Metaphysical: Will to Run Day 1 – 3

Lets start this off with … I highly dislike running outside of playing basketball.  For some reason….I have been compelled to confront this task of running and it has been surprisingly fun and challenging!

I wanted to challenge myself for 30 days, possibly more.  I will run (almost) every morning  for the next 30 days for atleast 2 – 5 miles. Where …. at the moment it is kinda hot outside so running directly to the pool/river/waterfall is more motivation than I can ask for. This “mission” will also give me a chance to actually blog instead of re posting articles around ze interwebs, which I think this site has been slacking on.

Day 1 –  7.23 (2 Miles)

Shoes …. 1 out of 3 pairs of kicks that I have happen to be these beat up Pumas that are for running and they feel good enough to me. On the first day I noticed a few people doing strange things along the path that I run.  Pokemon Go (yes somehow it has creeped its way into this article as well) has people wandering in the trails with their phones looking for who knows what.  I found watching them amusing as I ran past. I usually start off the run with 3 sets of pull ups to get the blood flowing.

I made it to the point where I have to go .. uphill. I thought  I would be able to make it all the way to the water non stop but I didn’t consider the up hill trails -_-.  I find myself usually gasping for air around mid point of the uphill run.  It felt better than I imagined it would to actually make it to the water and get rinsed off. Ill take some photos of this whole adventure soon enough. Thinking about making a video but Im more focused on that actual run then recording it as of now.  The goal is to make it all the way to the waterfall without stopping! A = start B = waterfall

2.6 Mile Route I Created Using PlotARoute.com Awesome for planning a run!
The best motivation for a run! A cool body of water to get in!

After a nice run Im usually drenched in sweat so i’m sure you can imagine how amazing this feels.  The cold water always changes my breathing rate and i’m forced to open my mouth. For me this is the reward to running myself out of breath for 20 minutes. lqdvzn-19.jpg I usually take this moment to do some yoga and stretch up my hips and thighs. The unevenness of the rocks makes it a bit difficult to enjoy a full session but it  works. If i close my eyes and listen to the sound of the waterfall its easy to forget where Im sitting exactly. It may feel like i’m on the left side. It reminds me of a practice of attempting to recall what you see around you while your eyes are closed.

Day 2 – 7.24 (2 Miles)

Its not as sunny as yesterday but that could be a good thing. Intensity is what I enjoy and when the sun is beaming, thats what I get. I can enjoy the shade especially on a early morning run. As far as eating I usually go out on a bottle of water or something light like a mango or two. I leave my phone in the house, no distractions plus I can just get in the water without thinking about getting phone wet and blahzay blah. Ive made it a bit further in my run id say I pushed 30 seconds – 1 minute past where I would normally take a walk break to catch my breath. When you know where your going it seems like arriving at the destination is faster. The first day I wasn’t sure which way I was going so it seemed like it took a bit longer to finish.  Made it and as the ritual goes I sat in what i like to call the half way mark cool down runners seat …

After I leave the waterfall I begin running back to where I came. It usually feels like I have more energy than when I first began the run.  I take a different path back one that involves a bit more running and jumping over stuff as well as crossing over the river.

Day 3 – 7.25  ( 0 Miles)

Getting ready … but not really. Today I feel like running but not really 😀 It could be the plum wine from yesterday creating resistance or the sound of the insects letting me know its hot outside… really hot. Im typing this and deciding at the same time…..

The decision to rest has been made! I did complete the routine workout to make up for the lack of running….. Pull Ups, Push Ups, Leg Ups, Handstands, Yoga  etc

Day 4 –  7.26 ( 5 Miles)

11:00 am and its time to run!

  • Big Yawn….

2:00 pm

Just how I feel at the moment!   I realized the first two days I was not pacing myself enough. I wasn’t full out sprinting but still getting winded once I hit the uphill sections. Today I set it in my mind to keep a steady pace and feel out when I’m losing hold of my breathing.  It feels like when I run at a quicker pace the demand for air is higher and eventually I have to walk to catch up with my breath but when I’m at a steady smooth flow there are moments I can feel my breath catching up to me even though i’m still jogging/running at a decent pace. This made a HUUUUGE difference, so much that I took a detour to run more. Hilarious right …  I felt like I didn’t run enough by the time I made it to the last stretch before the water!  At the( 4) mark I usually take that right and stop by the waterfall (B) but I instead took a left and ran another loop (3) making my way back around to the 4 mark (photo below).

I sat and rinsed off as usual and found a nice hot rock to lay down and do a few stretches on. There was a older woman with grey hair and a brown dog on a leash that was swimming in the water. The dog seemed more interested in staying out of the water and on the rocks.

For the journey back I decided to take the same path simply because I was aiming for a certain mileage and I didn’t feel like crossing the river and climbing a mountain (literally) to take the more physically demanding “shortcut”. Returning back on the same path looks completely different in the opposite direction. I almost took the wrong turn but someone familiar helped me get back to the path. I saw the same person I initially saw when I made it to the trail. The first time I saw him he was sitting on the bench at the entrance of the trail I acknowledged him and the dog with a hand wave and smile. This time, he was with a group of older friends walking to the exit and when he looked back to see me running still (2 hours later)  .. He said “There he is”… ” You have to stop running cmon take a break ” I responded reaching down to pet his dog still in motion … “Not yet”  I overheard them saying “your making us look slow, he’s young and its almost like walking to him” All wonderful vibes and motivation for me to keep going!

I’ve made it back in .. No rest stops and its time to EAAAATTTT! Pasta is on the menu for now! Mushrooms, Butternut Squash and Garlic but first Mangoes!  Safe to say I’m going to be testing myself in a race this year or early next. I just learned what the 5k and 10k marathons .. no looking back now! Soon I will start bringing my phone  so I can have some fresh photos of these encounters. At the moment I rather focus on and just enjoy the pleasure of running versus sharing the experience visually.

If you are located in the Metro Atlanta- Georgia are or close feel free to stop in on a nice Yoga session with @SuperDopeHeroin.  Sessions are every Tuesday at 6:00 PM.  I typically run on sp/cp spiritual people time so i managed to make it out yesterday for the last few minutes of the session. As I came out of a shoulder stand I look up and there is 3 or 4 Falcons flying very close above chasing each other. It was exciting opening my eyes to falcons almost coming close enough to jump up and grab if I were 10ft taller ,  I wish I could of snapped a shot of them.
